AUF DER REISE: SLOWENIEN 02

Waldland und Regenwelt.
Mediterranes Flair.

Einladung angenommen.

Auf Wiedersehen, Sloweniens Wald, Nebel und Berge! Dobar dan, Hrvatska!

Forestland and rainy world.
Mediterranean flair.

Slovenia is green, not just scenic-wise. Ljubiljana has an elaborate recycling system - one could become envious in German cities. Between mountains and forests, fog and rainfall, I arrive in the capital of Slovenia. Suddenly the sun comes out. The flea market, which was recommended, is unfortunately a bit small, somehow the people are too much to digest. We walk up to the castle, enjoy the view and after a limona ice cream we are back at the car again.

We continue to Bled: more nature, a crystal clear lake and a muddy campsite. Continuous rain. And a delicious coconut filled pastry for breakfast. From there we drive several hours through dense forest up the mountains. The Triglav National Park. I manoeuver the car around stones and holes, see how other cars have flat tyres by the side of the road and how the milky green blue river bulges by the edge of the trail. When we climbed further through forests and mountains, suddenly light sleet is hitting our windowscreen. But we are already on the way down again, to the Škocjan caves, where dogs are not allowed in but we enjoy a short hike over the rainy canyon anyway.

Then: Piran. The Slovenian city with the Italian flair. We have a small apartment in the old town and a favorite café: the Caffe Teater right on the promenade. One can observe the waves whipping up the stone blocks, or just going at them gently, later in the day, at low tide. We stay and enjoy the sun for two nights and days.

Piran is not far from the Croatian border and we are hardly sitting back in the car, when we have our first border experience: the Slovenian border control asks and asks, fascinated by the length of the trip and with what job could you actually do such a trip? I almost pass the Croatian border without stopping. The Croatian asks where I want to go, I say I want to go to Pula. Invitation accepted.

Goodbye, Slovenia's forest, fog and mountains! Dobar dan, Hrvatska!
